Spring is in bloom at Brookgreen Gardens!
Brookgreen is a wonderful diversion from the hustle and bustle of the main Myrtle Beach area. Located in the historic Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach area, it is a wonderful way to spend family time out in the gardens, view original rice fields, and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the wildlife exhibit.
This is a nice quiet way to see the marshes and rivers of the area. Explore the Black River Cypress, Tupelo Swamp, Huntington Beach, salt marshes, creeks, Sunday Island, nature preserves and the Chicora Wood Plantation Creek. Single or tandem kayaks available. A safety talk and introductory lesson by a trained guide are included. All necessary equipment is provided.
Capt. Dick's has fishing excursions of all kinds. The Sea Bass trip is 5 1/2 hours long and costs $36 for an adult and $23 for a child 12 and under. If you want to just sightsee, the cost is $17. On the Continental fishing trip, you will fish approximately 25-35 miles offshore for crimson snapper, triggerfish and bigger sea bass. The cost is $52 for adults and $29 for children. Fish for sand, tiger and hammerhead sharks on the 4-hour shark-fishing trip. This one costs $95 per person

This charity event raises money for the Grand Strand Humane society by encouraging residents to dress up as zombies and creep through the Five Points section of downtown Myrtle Beach. Costume creativity is encouraged, but there will also be professional make-up artists on hand to help zombie-fy participants. And if the prospect of playing brain-eater for a few hours is too much for you to handle, the humane society will have some cuddly, adoptable critters on hand to cheer you up. The walk begins at 5 p.m. at Fresh Brewed Coffeehouse and ends at the intersection of Eighth Avenue North and Kings Highway where an afterparty with 13 bands playing at Drink! and The Basement will take place. There’s nothing more patriotic than seeing a line of decorated boats cruising down the creek for the Murrells Inlet Fourth of July parade. The year’s theme will be announced around April 2009. Fireworks are shot off over the Inlet waters. Spectators can line the Marshwalk area for the best view of the parade. Come early for a great viewing spot and stick around to have lunch at any of the fine Inlet restaurants after the parade. Thousands of people line the shores to enjoy the display.
The Grand Strand will celebrate this 4th of July with fireworks displays, live entertainment, sports tournaments, great kid's activities, and military spectacles. Why not be a part of the fun and pay tribute to our nation's Independence...no matter where you are, there's something going on! The long strip of Coastal Carolina centered on Myrtle Beach has a long history of fantastic Fourth of July celebrations, and this year will be no exception!
Barefoot Landing will celebrate the 4th of July with a special fireworks show at 10:15pm. Nightly Summerfest entertainers, featuring Kids Karaoke, The Stilt Man, clowns, face painters and balloon artists will be located throughout Barefoot Landing from 7-11pm. In addition, families can enjoy the Kids Zone, including the Euro Bungee, Rock Wall, Mechanical Bull, the Carousel and more, located in the Lakeview Courtyard.

The Pawley's Island Festival of Music & Art is held at Brookgreen Gardens, just south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The festival has evolved from a one show musical performance in 1991 to an annual event today featuring well-known musicians from across the country.
A castle on a beach and a collection of some of the most unique arts and crafts to be found today - you must be going to the Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival. The castle, located in Huntington Beach State Park is the former home of the world famous sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington.
In honor of her contributions to the art world, this festival welcomes in over one hundred local and national artisans to show their wares. Over 10,000 people will be browsing the eclectic display of hand blown glass, baskets, and other artifacts.
The Fall Rally in October is a great time to visit the Grand Strand. Vending locations will be about the same as for May but with fewer vendors. Most of the same locations that held events in the spring will host events for the Fall Rally

During the Loris Bog-Off Festival the city of Loris goes all out to ensure that the Myrtle Beach area is filled with excitement and entertainment for everyone.

So you're a regular at Myrtle Beach or maybe you've never visited before. Either way, you probably do not know where to start when it comes to dining on the Grand Strand. Along with the ever-growing tourism to the area, there comes an explosion of new restaurants and old ones redone.
In October, Myrtle Beach hosts its Taste of the Town. Over 50 of the top restaurants in the area gather at the town's convention center and share their culinary treats for all to sample.

The Endless Summer Celebration Festival will be held on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Street Festival with arts/crafts, food, children's area and live entertainment. The Endless Summer Festival is a time to celebrate summer all year long!
This year’s festival will feature a diverse selection of entertainment from local, regional and national entertainers. There will be lots of vendors with one of a kind specialty craft items, food vendors and children’s area with inflatable’s, face painting, clowns, and a magician.

There's something simple, direct and authentic in Bluegrass Music. In a time and place that values novelty, experimentation and change-for-change's-sake, Bluegrass at its purest remains a truly original American concoction.
Every November, the South Carolina State Bluegrass Festival in Myrtle Beach celebrates and honors this musical form by bringing together the top practitioners of Bluegrass, and presenting them in a venue that allows for direct audience participation. Jam sessions develop spontaneously, and often audience members join in.
In 1969, 16 artists and crafts people organized and formed the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild. It's a non-profit, state-chartered organization that aims to encourage and promote fine arts in the Myrtle Beach community. At Art in the Park all work is original, created by the displaying artist without benefit of purchased, reusable molds, kits or commercial mass production.
Step back into the world of Charles Dickens, stroll through the aisles of 350 period clad vendors hawking wares of fine art, crafts, imported gifts, toys and much, much more. The Dickens show creates a magical environment filled with original, quality items awaiting shoppers...satisfying even the most difficult on their holiday list! An authentic recreation of the Charles Dickens era forms the lively backdrop with an excursion into Christmas Past. Bedecked with London row houses, strolling minstrels, Christmas finery and unique treasures, this festival produces a complete and entertaining 19th Century holiday environment that is enjoyed by young and old alike.

The Myrtle Beach area's average annual high temperatures are in the mid 70's. During the summer, the average high temperatures are in the upper 80's and in the winter, the average high temmperatures are around 60 degrees.
Myrtle Beach also has an average of 215 days of sunshine per year to make your visit even more enjoyable.
Seat belts must be worn at all times in a moving vehicle.
Vehicle headlights must be on if operating windshield wipers due to rain or poor road conditions.
Motorcyclists are required to use headlights at all times.
Children 17 and younger must be restrained at all times in a moving vehicle by means appropriate for the child's age and seating location, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Right turns may be made on a red light, except where a sign denotes "No Right on Red." You must stop before turning and yield right-of-way to traffic already in the intersection.
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is illegal. Penalties include a fine of more than $200 and loss of driving license both in South Carolina and the driver’s home state.
Driving on the Beach
It is unlawful for any person to drive or operate a motor vehicle on the beach.
Sleeping on the Beach
Sleeping on the beach or at a beach access is not allowed between 9 p.m. and sunrise.
Swimming/Sunbathing
Swimming is not permitted beyond 50 yards from the beach or over shoulder depth, unless otherwise stated by the lifeguard.
Jumping or diving from piers is prohibited. Swimming within 50 yards of a pier is prohibited.
Only canvas/fabric rafts may be used in the ocean. Rafts must be equipped with safety ropes.
Swimwear is subject to city ordinances in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach. It is illegal for anyone to wear a thong bathing suit.
Fireworks
Possessing or discharging of fireworks is illegal within the city limits of municipalities along the Grand Strand. All establishments that sell fireworks within Horry County are required to post in a conspicuous location rules and regulations regarding fireworks.
Cruising
Cruising in Myrtle Beach is regulated by the Myrtle Beach Police Department between 3rd Ave. S. and 21st Ave. N. on Ocean Boulevard from 2 a.m.-6 a.m. March 1-Oct. 1.
Littering
Littering is illegal. Offenders may be required by law to assist officials in cleaning up the litter. All glass containers are prohibited on the beach.
Alcohol
Possession or consumption of alcohol is prohibited on the beach.
Glass containers/bottles are not allowed on the beach.

In Horry and Georgetown counties restaurants and bars may sell alcoholic beverages on Sunday. In addition, all liquor stores open at 9 a.m. and must close by 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Store purchases of alcoholic beverages are prohibited from midnight Saturday through midnight Sunday.
Thanks to a recent law, stores with a special sales permit may sell beer and wine on Sundays. Stores with this permit include many grocery stores and all Grand Strand area Wal-Mart Supercenters.

Boating & Surfing:
In Horry County: It is illegal to use any equipment in a manner that would endanger bathers, swimmers, surfers, or others in the water. Sailboats, motorboats, and Jet skis (or other personal watercraft) must remain at least 400 feet from the shoreline and 500 feet from any fishing pier, with the exception of entering or exiting the ocean. Sailboats, motorboats, and Jet skis may not be launched or retrieved within 50 yards of a lifeguard stand, unless otherwise designated.
In Myrtle Beach: Boats and Jet skis (or other personal watercraft) may not be operated within 100 yards of shore April 15-Sept. 15; however, Jet skis may be launched and returned to the beach on a course perpendicular to the beach. Boats and Jet skis may not be launched from the beach or returned to the beach April 15-Sept. 15 in the area from 29th Ave. S. to 31st Ave. N., and from 69th Ave. N. to 77th Ave. N.
Surfing and kayaking are restricted to certain areas April 30 -Sept. 15. During those dates, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., surfing and kayaking are allowed only in these areas: from the terminus of the TA-80 Zone to the south city limits, from 39th Ave. N. to 47th Ave. N., from 62nd Ave. N. to 68th Ave. N., and from 82nd Ave. N. to the northern city limits. The area from the south side of 8th Ave. N. to the north end of the public boardwalk may be used for surfing or kayaking Oct. 1-April 15. Surfing and kayaking are not permitted within 400 feet of any fishing pier. Kayaks launched and returned to the beach on a course perpendicular to the beach for use out of the surf zone are not subject to the previously mentioned time and area restrictions.
In North Myrtle Beach: Motorized watercraft may not be launched from the beach from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 15-Sept. 15. Jet skis, catamarans, sailboats, or other watercraft may not operate within 100 yards of the shoreline or within 50 yards of any swimmer. Surfing is not allowed from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. May 15-Sept. 15, except in these designated areas: Cherry Grove Pier, 13th Ave. S., 28th Ave. S., 38th Ave. S., and 6th Ave. N. Surfers are required to wear a surfing leash at all times.
In Surfside Beach: Access to the beach with a boat is limited to the designated ramp at 3rd Ave. S. Jet skis may be launched at 4th Ave. S. and must remain 400 feet from the shore and 300 feet from the pier. No watercraft may be transported to the water by vehicle. Surfing is not allowed from May 15th to September 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Surfside Beach except in an area beginning 270 feet south of 12th Ave. N. and extending northward to 14th Ave. N., and in an area beginning 300 feet north of 13th Ave. S. and extending southward into Garden City
Sleeping on the Beach
Sleeping on the beach or at a beach access is not allowed between 9 p.m. and sunrise.

It is unlawful to ride a horse or other animal on the public beach or within pubic marsh areas within the county limits March 1- Oct. 31.
Campfires
It is illegal to build a fire or use a propane-fired grill or other cooker on the beach.
Sea Oats
It is illegal to cut, break, or otherwise destroy sea oat plants, beach grass, or sand fencing.
